The snow is deep. The air is crisp. The adventures are just getting started.
Winter at SouthFork Lodge isn’t just about horsepower—it’s about peace, powder, and the kind of quiet you can only find when the forest is blanketed in snow. For those who prefer a slower pace or want to experience the wild in a different way, we offer a full menu of winter adventures beyond the throttle. Whether you're chasing solitude, seeking movement, or introducing the family to the magic of snow, there’s something here for everyone.
Snowshoeing
Slow, simple, and stunning. Snowshoeing is the perfect way to explore the Boise National Forest in winter—no experience required. Trails wind straight from the lodge into snowy meadows, quiet ridgelines, and pine-covered paths, all waiting to be discovered. Ideal for all ages and fitness levels, it’s one of the best ways to truly feel the season. Complimentary snowshoes are available for guests during the winter season.
Cross-Country Skiing
For those ready to glide through winter’s silence, cross-country skiing offers a graceful way to move through the forest. It’s not always beginner-level, but it is endlessly rewarding. SouthFork can help guide you to the best trails nearby, and skis are available for guest use with winter room reservations.
Backcountry Skiing
For experienced adventurers, backcountry terrain is abundant. We’ll help you secure Park 'n Ski passes, offer transport to trailheads, and point you toward deep powder and incredible vistas. You find the line—we’ll help get you there.

Hot Springs
Winter soaking is a rite of passage in Idaho. The region’s geothermal activity means natural hot springs bubble along the Payette River year-round—and they’re never more beautiful (or challenging) than in winter.
Steam rises into crisp air, snowbanks glow in moonlight, and the water stays blissfully hot. But fair warning: your clothes will freeze almost instantly once you’re out of the spring. Locals know to bring extra towels, warm layers, and a few tricks—like wrapping your change of clothes in a down jacket while you soak.
SouthFork offers guest transportation to some of the best-known springs in the area—or rent a mountain bike or side-by-side to go explore the hidden gems yourself. Just ask at The Pit for maps, towels, and trail tips.
