Merrills on the Move is led by Boise-based adventure-travel mom Ashley Merrill, who, along with her family, is on a mission to show parents that getting outside with kids isn’t just possible — it’s worth it. Through thoughtful storytelling and real-life family adventures, the Merrills explore unique locations across Idaho, highlighting outdoor experiences, local parks, small towns, and family-friendly restaurants that make the state such a special place to explore. Their goal is simple and refreshing: help families get out of the house, unplug, and discover the beauty right in their own backyard.
Ashley and her family recently spent two days with us at SouthFork Lodge, fully leaning into Lodge Life™. Big hockey fans, the Merrills wasted no time lacing up skates and showing off their skills on the ice — proving once again that some of the best memories happen when families jump in and play together. Watching the kids (and parents) out there long after dark was exactly the kind of moment this place was built for.
During their stay, Ashley shared, “This place feels like the most traditional, old school Idaho bed & breakfast took STEROIDS! They’re doing all the right things to keep Idaho, Idaho while completely elevating the experience.” She also highlighted the food — always a family favorite — saying, “The FOOD: fresh, tasty and fancy but low key at the same time. Kinda like us! The coolest part is that all your food is included in your stay — taking all the headache and planning off Mom, yes PLEASE.”
We were thrilled to host the Merrills and loved seeing them experience the forest, the lodge, the ice, and the easy rhythm of mountain life firsthand. Visits like theirs remind us exactly why Lodge Life™ matters — it’s about families, connection, and making it easier to say yes to adventure.
